Definitely try to make it to Tuesday's meeting. We will be welcoming about 10 new team mates from St. Andrews School and Dr. Harvey Johnson, their teacher and our newest mentor. I will be bringing an XBox Kinect and we will start looking at how we might use it.

Also, Adam and I had talked about redoing the arm on our robot. I think it would be very good for our public relations to have some sort of working arm on the robot. Remember that we need to visit J.C. Penny's at some point and having that robot functional will be important. We might want to revisit the floor-pickup mechanism that we attempted earlier this year.

Meeting Change & Off-Season Project

Due to the Homecoming Game and Dance at Appo HS this Friday, we will be having our meeting on Thursday instead. Remember to think about requirements and design ideas for improving pit and shop storage. Sketch out or write up any ideas you might have and be prepared to discuss them. Duel on Delaware

If you are going to the Duel on Delaware on Saturday, October 22, 2011, please let Paul know by Thursday, Octoboer 20, 2011. We will be meeting at the New Wawa in Middletown (The one by MHS) at 5:00AM, and then leaving from there by 5:30AM. The pits at the Duel open at 7:30AM. Then we will be leaving around 5:00PM and arrive back in Middletown around 6:00PM to 6:30PM (will be dropping students off again at the New Wawa in Middletown). Today at our meeting we voted new officers in for the 2011-2012 Season. The three positions that officers were voted into are the President, Vice President, and Secretary. The following students were voted into each postions:

First Meeting for 2012 Pre-season

It’s been a long summer and we’re getting a late start again this year, but our first meeting is upon us. We will gathering at the Hard Bean Coffee Shop, 4390 Summit Bridge Rd, Tuesday, September 27, at 6pm . The Hard Bean is located just south of the Summit Airport, near the Valero. They have coffees, sodas, teas and fresh baked desserts. I’ll also be inviting Gayle Rutter, Principal of Appoquinimink High School, and Matt Burrows, new Superintendent of Appoquinimink School District.

Mandatory Meeting

If you plan to be part of the Robotic's Team, please attend a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, December 2 at 6pm at AHS, room D135. Enter at the back of the school by the tennis courts.

Build season will start on January 9th, 2010. Team members must attend meetings prior to that for organizational purposes. Please let me know if you will have a conflict on that date.

New Team Name

Our team name has changed. We are now known as Thermogenesis, instead of the Blue Charge.

Second Regional

We have decided to go the Philly regional instead on the Richmond Regional. Both of these regionals are on the same weekend, which is the weekend of March 19 - 21. The main reason we are picking the Philly regional over the Richmond regional is flexibility. The Junior Prom is on Saturday, the 21st so going to Philly would allow the juniors to get home at a reasonable time to attend the prom. Also, the 10th grade DTSP writing test is on the 19th and 20th. Two years ago we went to the Chesapeake regional at DSTP time, the students were all allowed to make the test up. We will have to verify that possibility. I hope no one is too upset about this change, but we thought it was for the best and slots were filling up very quickly.

Philly Regional Day Three

Today we as a team were full of spirit and integrity. We did a very good job in showing that our robot can do what it is suppose to. Even though we finished in thirty-seventh in the qualifying matches, we were still picked to be in the sixth seated alliance. Our alliance partners, Team 237 (T.R.I.B.E.), and Team 816 (Panthers), were great hurdlers. With all three of our robots put together, we won the quarter finals match. Even though we lost the semi-finals by just a little bit, we as an alliance came to be one of the third place alliances in the elimination rounds.

Philly Regional Day Two

Today started off to be great. We started off being qualified as rank two but the dropped down to rank twenty-five. Even though we dropped down, our robot did what we wanted it to do. The autonomous mode worked, the arm knocked the ball of the overpass, and we also got a nine lap match. These three things made us as a team, very happy.

Philly Regional Day One

Today was great. First when we got there we took off the old roll cage and arm frame. After that we put on our newly designed arm. The arm worked really nice. As we tested the arm in a couple of practice matches, Justin and Santesh worked on the autonomous mode parts and the programming. After everything was put on, the robot looked and worked great.

Getting Ready for Philly

We packed up everything in Duck's jeep and Adam's truck for our next regional in Philly. Hopefully the arm that we designed works really nice. We also will have a great autonomous mode. Now we just wait for the competition to test all of our hard work.

The Arm

The arm was started today. The new arm will be very efficient unlike the old one, which was slow and heavy. Hopefully this new arm design will increase our scoring ability from only doing laps. This arm will also give us a chance to get more points in autonomous mode.

Trenton Regional

The Trenton Regional Competition was very fun. Everyone had a great time. The robot worked really great even thought it was just a racer. Hopefully we find out a way to fix the arm to use at our next regional.

The robot is done. There are minor things we have to fix, but it is done. The arm lifts up, the robot is fast, and best of all it picks up the ball. The only problem is that we have to get another motor for the arm. Now we'll see the robot at our first regional, which is at Trenton.

The infrared board is fried. We tried to fix it, but it just made the board look worse. An upside to it is that Justin and Jithin have found an alternative board to use. If this board works, we might be in good shape.

Finally, the transmissions and the electric are done. We should be able to run the robot next meeting. Now, we need a fixed design for the arm. Hopefully we have it ready and worked on by Saturday.

Robot Design

While we do have a great concept for our robot already finished, we aren't nearly done the design process. I'll do my best to remain vague throughout this update, as to not give away any key ideas to other teams looking to borrow ideas.

At Saturday's meeting, the team came up with a great idea for grabbing the ball that seems like it will work pretty well. Construction of a prototype has already begun and hopefully at the next meeting we will finish it and get to see the finished product in action.

In addition to this, the majority of the frame (including motor and transmission placement), as well as bumper placement, has been planned out throughly, to accommodate the new rules regarding bumpers.

However we are still lacking in regard to our tower's design.

While we do like to do the majority of the work at meetings, it is important to continue the planning process during the times when no meetings are being held. In light of this, a new board in the forum has been created, to allow the team to interact via the website, in which ideas and concepts can be shared. More information on this board can be found in the announcement section of the forums.

In addition to designing during our "downtime," it would also be helpful for the team to spend some time looking over the rules and regulations. By familiarizing ourselves with these, we can avoid wasting time on illegal designs, and even possibly creating something which could ultimately lead to us being disqualified at competition.

While we do try to keep our designs and plans a secret from other teams, we also, in the spirit of gracious professionalism, would be more than happy to help any teams that are struggling with their own designs. So to any other teams that may come across our website, please feel free to stop in our forums to ask for help.

New Logo Design Contest

At today's meeting, the team decided to design a new logo to represent the team. These logos can be designed by any of the current team members. The drawing of the logos are due at the next meeting, which is on Wednesday, December 19,2007. There are also previously designed logos that can be chosen from. The winner of the logo will be picked at the meeting.

I received a call from Peggy Vavalla at Dupont over the weekend. They are granting us the $6,000 as in years past! We are in great shape for two regionals with plenty of funds for building!!

Secondly FIRSTBase has officially been re-opened. This means design team needs to register on FIRSTBase so that everyone can have access to the software that needs it. The sooner you get the software the sooner you can begin to use and and familiarize yourself with it. Head on over to the forums for the most up-to-date information regarding FIRSTBase and other design team related material.

Thirdly, Kickoff is fast approaching. Whatever pre-kickoff preparations need to be made should be made soon. Team leaders should be using their time wisely to prepare their teams for the hectic weeks following kickoff.

As for the forums, I have seen an increase in registered forum members, but no real increase in team interaction happening. Use the forums wisely, they can be an excellent medium through which information and help can be obtained.

Finally, tomorrow night is Friendly's Night, we receive a portion of that nights total profit; I hope that everyone capable of attending will do so, it's good food and your helping the team raise money, what more could you want?

I'm looking forward to seeing some of you at Friendly's tomorrow, and I hope to see all of you at this weeks meeting.

Tonight's meeting was what the team needed. First, we found out that Mrs. Graham got the team advisor position. Second, we got our old room and shed back. These two things eliminated every one's worries about the team possibly falling apart.
